Our friends Flûte Alors! are a fantastic recorder quartet from Montréal. They are on the road right now as part of their Jeunesses Musicales tour, and will be performing in Fredericton. Go hear them!

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving! We enjoyed great weather and perfect fall foliage for RedOwl’s first concert of the season in Fredericton. Here’s us en route with the harpsichord wedged between us:

For the last week of September, we met up with two lovely colleagues from Montreal, baroque violinist Jacques-André Houle and baroque cellist Amanda Keesmaat, and worked with the Choeur Louisbourg under the fantastically capable direction of Monique Richard at the Sackville Early Music Festival in a program of Buxtehude.

Jonathan and the choir performed in the world premiere of a specially commissioned work in honour of the 250th anniversary of Sackville. Composer and Mount Allison grad Matthew Lane set three sonnets by Montreal poet Marc Vaillancourt for choir and electronically manipulated harpsichord. Here is Jon-o tuning the harpsichord. You can see the microphones for the special effects carefully taped to the lid.

We had a great time in Sackville. Here is Sari on our favourite boardwalk in the Waterfowl Park doing “la danse des canards”

Our new name and home!

Lots of exciting news from Jonathan and Sari! After several years of performing in Fredericton, we’ve decided that, to celebrate our 5th season, it’s time to expand our activities and adopt a new name: as RedOwl, we’ll continue to present concerts at Gallery 78 in Fredericton, but will add a Montréal series!

With a new name comes a new webpage. We welcome all comments about it, or anything else that we’re doing – please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@redowl.ca, and check our out Facebook page.
