Bach sonatas are coming up soon

Our last concert of the season is coming up very soon, and we’re knee-deep in the twisty counterpoint and rich harmonies of Bach’s violin sonatas! This is the most demanding concert that we’ve ever put together, but it’s been well worth the effort – this is a concert not to be missed!

Froberger in Fredericton and Adventures in Sackville

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving! We enjoyed great weather and perfect fall foliage for RedOwl’s first concert of the season in Fredericton. Here’s us en route with the harpsichord wedged between us:

For the last week of September, we met up with two lovely colleagues from Montreal, baroque violinist Jacques-André Houle and baroque cellist Amanda Keesmaat, and worked with the Choeur Louisbourg under the fantastically capable direction of Monique Richard at the Sackville Early Music Festival in a program of Buxtehude.

Jonathan and the choir performed in the world premiere of a specially commissioned work in honour of the 250th anniversary of Sackville. Composer and Mount Allison grad Matthew Lane set three sonnets by Montreal poet Marc Vaillancourt for choir and electronically manipulated harpsichord. Here is Jon-o tuning the harpsichord. You can see the microphones for the special effects carefully taped to the lid.

We had a great time in Sackville. Here is Sari on our favourite boardwalk in the Waterfowl Park doing “la danse des canards”
